Dr. Martin Brauen is the head of the Department of Tibet, Himalaya and Far East at the Ethnographic Museum of the University
of Zurich, Switzerland. He studied Cultural and Social Anthropology, history of Religions and Buddhism at Zurich and Delhi
Universities. He is author of several books and exhibitions about Tibet, Bhutan, Nepal, Ladakh and Japan. Among the books,
'The Mandala: The sacred circle in Tibetan Buddhism' is the most widely known. He has also produced several films and documentaries
about Tibet and the Himalayas and worked in the fields of development and policy in a private NGO. He remains engaged in
humanitarian aid and human rights issues for Tibetans. He is married to Sonam Dolma and has two children, one of whom is
