NEWS DESK STORY: THE STRANGE DRAMA OF THE TIBETAN FUR TRADE

Imagine news anchor, Brian Williams, being required by NBC executives to add leopard fur trimmings to his clothes during his broadcasts. This is exactly what’s happened to Tibetan language broadcasters in Qinghai, a remote province of Eastern Tibet. This directive was sparked off by a rash of fur-burning across Tibet. Radio Free Asia reporter KALDEN LODOE, TSETEN PHANUCHARAS from L.A. Friends of Tibet, and JOHN ACKERLY from the International Campaign for Tibet shed light on this bizarre story.

THE SEARCH FOR TRUE HAPPINESS: AN INTERVIEW WITH MATTHIEU RICARD

MATTHIEU RICARD grew up among the intellectual circles of Paris and worked for his PHD degree in biochemistry at the Institute Pasteur. In 1972, he decided to forsake his scientific career and concentrate on Tibetan Buddhist studies, eventually becoming an ordained monk. The dialogue with his father, 'The Monk and the Philosopher', was a best seller in Europe, and 'The Quantum and the Lotus' reflects his long-standing interest in science and Buddhism. His new book, 'Happiness: A Guide to Developing Life’s Most Important Skill', explores the meaning and search for genuine happiness.
