NEWSDESK INTERVIEW*:
What happens when you take a group of diverse activists with a common goal and sic them on the organizers of possibly the
most watched parade in the world? From Tibet supporters to Reporters without Borders an alliance of human rights groups are
pooling their resources to to stop a controversial float from appearing in Pasadena's annual Rose Bowl parade and on the screens
of millions of Americans on New Year's Day. Our Pema Dhondup speaks with a Tibetan activist and a human rights about their
shared goal of halting a float celebrating the Beijing Olympics.

Singer songwriter, Rock and Roll hall of Famer (for The Byrds & Crosby Stills & Nash), Grammy honored ‘voice of
a generation’ – Woodstock era supergroup, and author of the book, ‘Stand and Be Counted: the Dramatic Story
of the Artists and Causes that Changed America', David Crosby has been making music and expressing the message of peaceful
resistance for decades. On the eve before the Dalai Lama is to receive the Congressional Gold Medal, prominent musicians
such as he and spiritual leaders come together at the National Cathedral in Washington DC to participate in a Pray for Peace
concert inspired by His Holiness. This very windy afternoon, producer Julie Adler sits down to talk to him about his connection
to Tibet.

At the end of a full week of events around the Dalai Lama receiving the Congressional Gold medal, perhaps the visit
closest to his heart is the one His Holiness makes to N Street Village, a womens' homeless shelter in the center of downtown
Washington DC where up to 800 women a year come for help. Producer Julie Adler is on the scene for this rare and moving
occasion.

On our September program, we aired PART ONE of this story of a modern-day pilgrimage to take teachings from the Dalai Lama
in a remote Indian village just 13 miles from the Tibetan border where Tibetan Buddhism is thriving. In PART TWO of this story,
producer Rebecca Novick arrives in Nako after a dramatic two-day jeep ride with her husband, Ronny, and Tibetan friend Nyima,
and their trusty driver, Amit. In Nako, she discovers a place imbued by the faith and devotion if it's inhabitants, where
people smile easily and the 21st century is left far behind. Maybe it's a side-effect of being at 12,000 feet, but in the
friendliness of the people and the thin mountain air, Rebecca finds that Nako is a feeling...
